ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
  • Eligibility for Admissions

Admission to the programme of Bachelor of Science in Leather Tanning Technology (BScLT) shall be governed by the general regulation of the University and the cut-off points set by the University Admissions Board.

A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the programme through three avenues

  • Direct Entry Scheme
  • Diploma Entry Scheme
  • Mature Age Entry Scheme
Direct Entry Scheme

Candidates seeking admission through this avenue must obtain

  • Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least two principal passes one of which must be in Chemistry or Biology and
  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at-least five passes in subjects including chemistry and biology.

The admission points required to admit a candidate under this scheme shall be computed as follows:-

  • Essential           Chemistry or  Biology or Physics,
  • Relevant           Mathematics, Technical    Drawing, Economics and any other related technical subjects.
  • Desirable         General Paper; Computer Studies
  • Others Any other Subjects
Diploma Entry Scheme
  • A candidate may be admitted through this avenue if he/she holds any of the following diplomas or their equivalents
    • Diploma in any of the following; Leather Tanning, Science Technology/Bilogy/Chemistry; Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering
    • Higher Diploma in Leather Tanning, Science Technology/Biology/Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Biology,
  • A candidate who has at least a second class Diploma is eligible for admission into the programme in second year of study. A candidate with a pass Diploma shall be required to enroll for the programme in the first year of study.
Mature Age Entry Scheme

A candidate is eligible for admission under this scheme if he/she has minimum age of 25 years, passes the National Council of Higher Education Mature entry aptitude examinations with a pass mark of 50% and in addition passes the Departmental selection examinations set by Kyambogo University. Candidates with background knowledge of hides and skins will have added advantage.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The Bachelor of Science in Leather Tanning Technology (BSc LT) programme shall be both day and evening programme to run for six (6) semesters or three (3) years. The maximum number of years in which a student is allowed to complete the programme shall be six (6) years.
